13 new COVID-19 cases among prisoners raising toll to 44

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- 13 new COVID-19 cases were registered among Palestinian prisoners in section (3) of Israel’s Negev prison, raising the toll to 44 in the section.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Palestinian Prisoner Association said the increasing numbers of the cases along prisoners is a cause for fearing the worst, especially that the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) continues to spread its narrative regarding the test results and the prisoners’ health condition.

The statement added that although of the continuous calls to release old and patient prisoners to protect them from the pandemic, Israeli authorities continue to carry out further arrests under administrative detention.

It also stated that the association knew that dozens of jailers, especially in Rimon jail, were quarantined, adding that the cases among prisoners started through jailers.

184 COVID-19 cases have been registered among prisoners so far, most of them were registered in Gilboa jail.

The IPS has been following repressing practices that increased the cases among prisoners. The detainees don’t get the proper health treatment in light of the spread of the pandemic in the prisons.
