Riyadh (QNN)- A Saudi academic and columnist, who is affiliated to the Saudi regime, tweeted attacking Rep. Rashida Tlaib for wearing a white Palestinian thobe during Trump’s State of the Union speech two days ago.
Ahmad Farraj wrote in a tweet that Tlaib decided to wear a Palestinian Thobe during Trump’s speech as a form of protest, then he called her to leave the United States and go back to Ramallah.
“Rashida Tlaib, congresswoman of Palestinian origin, attended the State of the Union speech wearing a Palestinian Thobe to protest, as she said, against Trump.
why don’t you leave the US for Trump and go back to Ramallah. I’ll pay your first-class flight tickets and I’ll buy an apartment for you in Ramallah. I’m offering the same for that protester next to you, Ilhan Omar”, he tweeted.
Tlaib had announced earlier that she will join other congresswomen, wearing white to protest against Trump’s policies.
Democratic women of Congress arrived to the event wearing white as a way to show their unity and a commitment to defending the rights of women and disenfranchised groups.
One hundred years after the ratification of the 19th amendment, which gave some women the right to vote, this year, the Democratic Women’s Caucus organized the style statement. They announced their decision to wear white as a show of solidarity in a press conference on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the State of the Union address.
On the other hand, Several reports by international human rights organizations criticized the condition of women’s rights in Saudi Arabia. Only in 2017, King Salman passed an order allowing women to obtain government services such as education and health care without the need of permission from a guardian. Every year, more than 1,000 women try to flee Saudi Arabia, excluding cases which are unrecorded due to family-shaming. Only in 2015, Saudi women started to have the right to vote and run for the municipal council election, which is the only election in the country.
